Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish figures comparing the net weekly spending power of a married man with two children aged 12 and 14 years, and a married man with four children aged 8, 10, 12 and 14 years, living in local authority housing, under the following circumstances (a) when unemployed and in receipt of supplementary benefit, (b) when working part-time for 16 hours a week and earning £25, with no work expenses and (c) when working part-time for 16 hours a week and earning £25, but with work expenses of £5.

The information requested is given in the tables below. All the families are assumed to take up the means tested benefits for which they are eligible.
