asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much financial assistance has been granted to the textile industry in Kilmarnock constituency.

Under section 7 of the Industry Act 1972, eight offers of selective financial assistance amounting to almost £350,000 have been made to companies in the Kilmarnock area whose projects fall into the appropriate standdard industrial classification. This is additional to any payment of regional development grants, which are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Industry.
