asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied with the current level of unemployment in Cumbria.

No. Although the rate of unemployment in Cumbria is better than for the Northern region as a whole it is none the less far too high. To bring down unemployment, however, we must first conquer inflation and create the conditions in which industry and commerce will be able to prosper and create the jobs which are needed. The Government's policies are directed towards this goal.
