HC Deb 24 June 1980 vol 987 c83W
34. Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons under 20 years of age are unemployed in the county of South Yorkshire; and how many unfilled vacancies were available at the latest date for which figures are available.

Mr. Jim Lester

At 10 April, the latest date for which the quarterly age analysis is available, there were 8,154 people under 20 years of age registered as unemployed in the county of South Yorkshire.

At 2 April there were, 1,723 notified vacancies remaining unfilled at employment offices and 447 at careers offices in the county and the corresponding vacancy figures at 6 June were 1,547 and 352, respectively. Vacancies notified to employment offices are estimated to be about one-third of all vacancies in the country as a whole. Because of possible duplication the figures for employment offices and careers offices should not be added together.
