HC Deb 18 June 1980 vol 986 c558W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many private children's homes there are ; what are their names ; and how many children were accommodated in them at the latest available date.

Sir George Young

There is no central record of private children's homes or of the numbers of children in them, but it is estimated that there are about 170 such homes in England and Wales which accommodate children in the care of local authorities.
