HC Deb 18 June 1980 vol 986 cc558-9W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the number of people in Scotland who (a) do not qualify for a death grant and (b) qualify only for a half-rate grant.

Mr. Prentice

It is estimated that at 30 June 1979, the latest date for which figures are available, there were in Scotland about 7,000 people on whose death no death grant would have been payable and about 74,000 people on whose death only a half-rate death grant would have been payable.
