§ 34. Mr. Biggs-Davisonasked the Attorney-General what progress has been made in reducing delays in bringing accused persons in Northern Ireland to trial.
§ The Attorney-GeneralDuring 1979 a greater number of days was devoted to the trial of scheduled offences than in any previous year and there is in fact no substantial backlog of accused persons committed for trial for either scheduled or non-scheduled offences.
In respect of scheduled offences the interval between committal and trial averages 13 weeks. Non-scheduled cases are usually disposed of in 8 to 9 weeks.
