In November 1979, when the figures were compiled for the current academic year, allowances for attendance at boarding schools in this country were being paid for 1,681 children of staff serving with Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service.

With effect from the beginning of the current summer term, the boarding school allowance ceilings, within which fees at boarding schools in this country may be reimbursed, are as follows:
Boys senior schools £2,474 p.a. Girls senior schools £2,375 p.a. Boys junior schools £2,227 p.a. Girls junior schools £2,138 p.a. A day school allowance is payable only for education at authorised day schools overseas. There is no set rate for this allowance, which naturally varies from country to country.
