HC Deb 31 July 1980 vol 989 cc805-6W
Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in view of the Social Services Committee recommendations on the importance of health education in ensuring good maternal health and prevention of handicap, if he will immediately take steps to ensure that more comprehensive programmes of health education are introduced into all schools at the start of a child's schooling.

Dr. Boyson

Decisions about what subjects are taught in schools and about subject content are the responsibility of local education authorities and the schools themselves. My right hon. and learned Friend's proposal for a curriculum framework, published earlier this year, included health education among the items that all pupils should receive in their education.
