HC Deb 28 July 1980 vol 989 cc545-6W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the proposal to close the emergency bed bureau on 1 August.

Dr. Vaughan

The Liverpool area health authority (teaching) has been considering economy measures designed to reduce revenue expenditure to a level consistent with the authority's cash limit and while maintaining essential patient services. As part of this exercise, I understand that the authority has agreed that the emergency bed bureau should close on 1 August 1980. Savings of £33,000 are expected to accrue in the current financial year.
