HC Deb 22 July 1980 vol 989 cc143-4W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what markets for multipurpose support vessel or emergency support vessel semi-submersibles are likely to arise in the Scottish continental shelf and elsewhere in the world.

Mr. Gray

The United Kingdom Offshore Operators Association and its Continental associates have with the approval of Governments concerned drawn up a scheme for the use and deployment of MSV and other emergency support vessels. The North Sea is basically divided into six areas of protection. Currently there are two MSVs working, two under construction and a possibility of one other being required.

I am unable to assess the size of the international market which will depend on the scale of the various offshore operations and the attitudes of the host Governments to such matters.
