asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will initiate a public inquiry into the class 4 national insurance contribution exacted from the self-employed.

The Conservative manifesto last year promised a review of the national insurance position of the self-employed and the Government will honour that commitment. The review will cover the class 4 contribution.
