§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the outcome of the consideration given to the question of grants for noise insulation in areas close to Royal Air Force stations, and the conditions in which such grants might be paid.
§ Mr. PattieThe position remains as stated in the White Paper "Development and Compensation—Putting People First"(Cmnd. 5124), where it is stated that the Secretary of State for Defence will, at his discretion, authorise the sound insulation of buildings which are subject to high noise levels through the use of new neighbouring defence installations. In the case of airfields this is interpreted as covering cases where high noise levels are experienced as a result of new runway or related works.
