§ Dr. BoysonThe recurrent grant of £987 million settled for the universities in the academic year 1980–81 provides for pay and price rises of about 14 per cent compared with the previous year. In addition, the grant of £987 million, as well as the grant of £802 million finally settled for the academic year 1979–80, includes realistic provision for pay settlements to be made on the basis of comparability. It is for universities to decide whether or not any particular expenditure can be accommodated within these sums.
