asked the Minister of Transport what proportion of the income derived from the road fund 216W licence is currently being spent on the roads; and what is the total sum expected from licences in the year 1979–80.
§ Mr. Fowler
Total revenue from motoring and vehicle taxation for 1979–80 is estimated to be £5,570 million. This comprises £1,120 million vehicle excise duty, £2,610 million fuel duty, £510 million car tax and £1,330 million VAT on fuel and car sales.
Central and local government expenditure on road construction and maintenance in 1979–80 is estimated to be £1,850 million—1979–80 outturn prices.
