The following are the staff-in-post figures for 1 January 1980, with the figures for 1 October 1979 in parenthesis:

Non-industrials 18,690 (19,080)

Industrials 18,754 (19,313)

Total 37,444 (38,393)

The 1 January returns of locally engaged staff overseas are not yet complete but the figures for 1 October 1979, with the 1 July numbers in parenthesis, were:

Non-industrials 1,312 (1,363)

Industrials 4,827 (5,042)

Total 6,139 (6,405)
