HC Deb 19 December 1980 vol 996 c346W
Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will make regulations under the Consumer Safety Act to deal with the dangers to the public who buy fire extinguishers which fail to meet minimum standards for fire protection purposes.

Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

I understand that work is nearing completion in the British Standards Institution on preparing a specification for small disposable fire extinguishers of the aerosol type. This type is commonly purchased for domestic and leisure use. When the specification has been published I shall consider with the trade, and others concerned, how its provisions might best be implemented, including the need for regulations under the Consumer Safety Act 1978.
