HC Deb 19 December 1980 vol 996 c346W
Mr. Iain Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he is satisfied with the steps his Department is taking to prevent the counterfeiting by foreign companies of United Kingdom designs, packages and trade marks.

Mr. Parkinson

Yes. Patent and trade mark protection goes some way to prevent counterfeiting and my Department urges United Kingdom companies to obtain this. If this proves inadequate, my Department makes representations to foreign Governments with whom we have diplomatic contact over the manufacture and handling of counterfeit products in their territories. My Department is very ready to receive further substantiated evidence of counterfeiting and work with United Kingdom companies to try to stamp it out.

Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Trade when he expects to publish the Green Paper on copyright and design law.

Mr. Eyre

Work on the Green Paper is advancing well and I expect to publish it in the next few months.
