§ Mr. FowlerThe figure referred to represents the whole of the administrative costs local authorities attributed both to roads and to their other transport activities in 1978–79. No direct expenditure by central government is included. The figure 491W comprises £104 million for employee costs and £53.8 million for running expenses.
