HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 c490W
Mr. Fry

asked the Minister of Transport what is the estimated cost in present prices of each of the following; each mile of the M25 already built or under construction, each mile of the Bedford-St. Pancras electrification scheme and one high speed train.

Mr. Fowler

The estimated average works cost per mile of the sections of the M25 already built or under construction is about £5.2 million in 1980 prices. The estimated average cost per route mile for the Bedford-St. Pancras electrification is £2.5 million (including the costs of trackwork, resignalling, rolling stock, depots and Kings Cross interchange). The cost of a high speed train is £2.1 million.
