HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc454-5W
Mr. Warren

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give an estimate of the number of low power, including walkie-talkie, transmitters now operating illegally in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Raison

We have no information on which such an estimate could reliably be based. As my hon. Friend indicated on 15 April in reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Coventry, South-West (Mr. Butcher), during the first quarter of this year some 8,800 illicit citizens' band stations were heard by officials of the Post Office Radio Interference Service in the course of their duties.
