§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in the light of the disappointment with the overall standards and conditions of training, he will now consider setting up a national body for family practitioner trainees to enable the prime aims of this scheme to be achieved, and consequently contributing to reducing the reported increase in complaints by patients against general practitioner trainees.
§ Dr. VaughanNational bodies, such as the Council for Postgraduate Medical Education—which gives guidance on vocational training arrangements—and the Joint Committee on Postgraduate Training for General Practice—which94W sets standards and monitors training schemes, already exist; the initiative for establishing any new body would rest with the profession.
I know of no increase in complaints by patients against general practice trainees; any such complaints would need to be lodged against the trainer principal who is responsible for a trainee's acts and omissions.
