HC Deb 14 April 1980 vol 982 cc498-9W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment which new town development corporations have so far suspended the sale of their assets; and whether this is in accord with his policy.

Mr. Heseltine

No new town development corporation has suspended the sale of its assets. However, I understand that Harlow and Stevenage development corporations have decided not to dispose of any assets other than for rollover and for purposes connected with the development of the towns. My policy remains as set out in my reply to the hon. Member on 3 April.—[Vol. 982, c. 338.]

Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will provide a list of the targets he gave to each of the new towns for the sale of assets in public ownership, and indicate in each case the actual sales to date and the amount he still requires to be sold by the target date.

Mr. Heseltine

To publish this information might prejudice the negotiating position of the new town development corporations and of the Commission for the New Towns.
