HC Deb 25 May 1979 vol 967 c336W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the estimated date of the consultants' report on the Deeside river road study; what is the latest estimated cost of the study; what is the brief to which the consultants are working; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Roberts

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to the North-East Clwyd traffic study. Consultants were appointed in March 1978 to carry out a detailed study of traffic requirements in North-East Clwyd with a view to determining the best way of improving the highway network in the area and links to the English motorway system to meet long-term needs. An interim report is nearing completion; depending on its conclusions, there may be a requirement for further work, in which case a final report should be available in the autumn. The estimated cost of the study, on the assumption that further work follows the interim report, is about £150,000. I understand that the Clwyd county council will be giving further consideration to the need for a new county road alongside the river Dee when conclusions have been reached on the trunk road network.
