HC Deb 27 March 1979 vol 965 c100W
24. Mr. Clemitson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the expected increase in the size of the working population in the United Kingdom by 1990 in absolute terms and as a proportion of the total population.

Mr. Golding

Current projections indicate that the labour force in Great Britain may increase from just under 26½ million in 1979 to 28¼ million in 1990, an increase of 1¾ million or about 7 per cent. As a proportion of the total population it would rise from 49 to 51 per cent.

No similar projections are prepared for the United Kingdom.
