asked the Secretary of State for Trade how many live cattle, horses and sheep, respectively, were exported in 1978 for human consumption.

Live animals exported specifically for human consumption are not separately distinguished in the overseas trade statistics. Following is the available information:

Live cattle not for breeding or dairy purposes
Fat steers, heifers and yearling bulls 48,474
Other cattle not for breeding or dairy purposes 454,790
Live sheep not for breeding
Lambs—up to a year old 174,027
Other sheep not for breeding 407,176
Live horses
Horses for Slaughter 712
