HC Deb 20 June 1979 vol 968 c603W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he is taking to prevent the marketing of surplus milk from EEC countries in Great Britain in such quantities as would destroy the milk industry of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Wiggin

My right hon. Friend's proposal for a 5 per cent. devaluation of the green pound should help to improve the competitive position of the milk industry in the United Kingdom, and the Government will continue to ensure that imported milk has to conform with the standards of hygiene we regard as being necessary.
