asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will approve substantial increases in the car allowance for health visitors, community nurses, and community midwives, taking into account the fact that many of these have said they will in future be unable to afford to use their cars in the course of their work.

This is a matter for the NHS General Whitley Council, which agreed substantial increases in mileage allowances on 6 June, 1979, as follows: —

I regret that there was a mistake in my hon. Friend's reply on 14 June to the hon. Member for Tooting (Mr. Cox). The two higher categories for the regular user rates should read "1001.1500cc" and "Over 1500cc".
