HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 c58W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he intends to take to reduce all levels of pollution, including the use of lead additives in petrol.

Mr. Fox

My right hon. Friend is concerned to encourage the reduction of environmental pollution wherever practicable. In general, detailed control is exercised by local authorities and regional water authorities; and they have to take account of economic and other factors in deciding on priorities. As regards lead in petrol, I refer to the reply given by my right hon. Friend, the Minister of Transport to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Perry Barr (Mr. Rooker) on 23 May.—[Vol. 967, c.140.]
