§ Mr. Cook
asked the Prime Minister whether the assurance given to the House by her predecessor on 26 May 1977, that hon. Members' telephone calls would not be tapped, remains the current policy.

§ The Prime Minister
The general policy in relation to the interception of hon. Members' telephones remains as stated by the right hon. Member for Huyton (Sir H. Wilson) on 17 November 1966 and reaffirmed by my right hon. Friend the Member for Sidcup (Mr. Heath) on 16 July 1970 and 21 December 1972, and by the right hon. Member for Cardiff, South-East (Mr. Callaghan) on 26 May 1977.
