HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 cc506-7W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Lord Privy Seal what amount will be made available each year to each European Member of Parliament to cover (a) out of pocket and living expenses and (b) travel.

Sir Ian Gilmour

Allowances have yet to be finally confirmed; but the Parliament's present intentions are that, in European units of account—EUA—with approximate sterling equivalents, they should be as follows:

Subsistence

92 EUA (£56.21) per day of attendance at Strasbourg, Luxembourg or elsewhere in the Community.

53 EUA (£32.38) per day of attendance outside the Community.

Travel (between home and place of work) 0.34 EUA (E0.21) per km. for first 400 kilometres.

0–13 EUA (£0.08) per km. thereafter.

Secretarial

Up to 1,800 EUA (£1,100) per month on presentation of a contract.

Office expenses, etc.

900 EUA (£550) per month, partly accountable.
