HL Deb 26 July 1979 vol 401 c2139WA
Lord HATCH of LUSBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In view of the Statement by the Minister of State, Employment on 4th July, 1979 (Hansard, columns 471–2), whether they can guarantee that no oil concerned in the BP-Conoco deal will reach Rhodesia, and if so, what means they will employ to penetrate the South African prohibition on information regarding the movement of oil.

Lord CARRINGTON

Both the companies concerned have informed us that the oil purchased by BP from Conoco under the arrangement referred to was delivered to Far Eastern markets, and not to South Africa. Conoco have themselves made this information public.
