HL Deb 26 July 1979 vol 401 c2140WA
Lord BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In view of the remarks of the Foreign Secretary in his speech in the House of Lords on 10th July which appeared to indicate compression of the problem of Rhodesia into two choices—association with Marxist slanted areas or pro-Western movements—why the latter are not supported.

Lord CARRINGTON

Her Majesty's Government have made it clear that it is our objective to build on the progress that has already been made in Rhodesia to bring the territory to legal independence in conditions of wide international acceptance. We shall be putting forward proposals to achieve that objective once our consultations are completed.
