HL Deb 25 July 1979 vol 401 c2027WA
Lord HYLTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information they have about the incidence of leukaemia and cancer among the inhabitants of the coast of Northern Ireland, and whether there is evidence linking these diseases with radiation emanating from Windscale and other coastal reactors, particularly through the consumption of fish and shellfish.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE, NORTHERN IRELAND OFFICE (Lord Elton)

No evidence available to the Government indicates that the incidence of leukaemia and other cancers is greater among the inhabitants of the coast of Northern Ireland than elsewhere. Nor is there any evidence of the link between these diseases and other factors suggested by the noble Lord in his Question.
