§ Mr. Brothertonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the activities of the community projects foundation; how many people it employs; and what is its cost to public funds in the latest year for which figures are available.
§ Mr. RaisonThe community projects foundation is at present engaged in 10 comparatively short-term community development projects from which lessons of wider significance can be learned. Negotiations for another six possible projects are in hand. The foundation disseminates the experience gained through publications and a consultancy service for local authorities and other organisations concerned with community development.
Fifty-five people are at present employed—including two part-time and five temporary staff. There are five unfilled vacancies. The voluntary services unit grant to community projects foundation in 1978–79 was £437,588. In addition, the Manpower Services Commission paid £75,000 and various local authorities contributed a total of £40,000 to the cost of field projects.
