HC Deb 25 July 1979 vol 971 cc240-1W
Mr. Rathbone

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his Department has finished its examination of the need to change the law to allow United Kingdom citizens living abroad the right to vote in United Kingdom elections; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Brittan

No, but the Government accept the desirability of such a change, for elections to the European Parliament. A large number of administrative details remain to be considered, however, and I cannot say when the necessary legislation will be introduced.
