Mr. Higgins

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many houses have now been purchased by the Government on account of the proposed new route for the A27/M27 in Worthing; what the total cost of these purchases has been; how many of the houses have subsequently been let; and what are the annual rents now being received.

Thirty-one houses, a flat and a restaurant with two cottages in its grounds have been purchased at a total cost of about £1.033 million. Twenty-seven houses and the flat are let at rents totalling £35,537 annually.

Mr. Higgins

asked the Minister of Transport when he expects his study of the need for any new A27/M27 in the Worthing area and alternative routes to be available; and if, in view of continuing uncertainty and changes in parameters which reduce forecasts of future road
