asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many hospital orders have been made under Section 60 of the Mental Health Act 1959 in each of the past five years, in how many of these cases were those orders acccompanied by restriction orders under Section 65 of the Act, and what in each such case was the duration of the restriction imposed.

The numbers made subject to hospital orders under Section 60 of the Mental Health Act 1959, the numbers of such orders accompanied by restriction orders under Section 65 of the Act and the duration of the restrictions imposed are published annually in Criminal Statistics, England and Wales (Tables 14 and 15(a) of the Volume for 1977, Cmnd 7289).
