HL Deb 12 July 1979 vol 401 c1126WA
Lord KENNET

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many jobs in the United King-dome have identifiably been generated, and in which industries, by the credit arrangements afforded by the United Kingdom to the Soviet Union.

Lord TREFGARNE

Contracts valued at over £540 million have been concluded between British firms and Soviet organisations under the terms of the British-Soviet credit agreement signed in February 1975. These orders cover a wide range of British industry and its sub-contractors, and there are no reliable means of calculating the number of jobs created as a result of this business.
