HC Deb 02 July 1979 vol 969 c490W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will investigate the anomalies in the Building Standards (Scotland) Acts, in view of the varied interpretations placed by local authorities in Scotland upon them which cause considerable delays and oncosts to developers and persons carrying out individual projects.

Mr. Rifkind

I am not aware of the anomalies in the Building (Scotland) Acts to which my hon. Friend refers. The enforcement of the Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations is the statutory responsibility of local authorities. The regulations are under continuing review and my right hon. Friend is willing to consider any suggestions for improvement which might remove difficulties over interpretation.
