HL Deb 06 December 1979 vol 403 c956WA
The Marquess of AILESBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are able to identify any other countries in which the motorist pays more for a litre of diesel fuel than for a litre of petrol.

The MINISTER of STATE, DEPARTMENT of EMPLOYMENT (The Earl of Gowrie)

The pump price of diesel fuel in Switzerland is reported as the equivalent of 152 pence per gallon compared with the equivalent of 142 pence per gallon for premium petrol. Elsewhere in Western Europe (apart from the UK) diesel prices to the motorist are lower than petrol prices.

House adjourned at a quarter past seven o'clock.
