sion for England has resumed work on its reviews of electoral arrangements in English districts. I have similarly resumed my consideration of the commission's reports and am currently making orders to implement them, with or without modifications. I recognise that many districts will wish to have their new electoral arrangements in effect for the May 1979 elections, but I am also conscious of the need for candidates and others to have a reasonable period in which to prepare for the elections. I have therefore decided that no orders to come into effect for the May 1979 elections should be made after 15th December 1978. I shall be consulting the 873W political parties and the local authority associations on the question when subsequent electoral arrangements orders should come into effect.
