§ Sir W. Elliottasked the Secretary of State for Transport how much money was expended on road construction in the past year in the Northern Region; and how much of the allocation for the region has not been taken up.
§ Mr. HoramExpenditure on trunk road construction in the region is expected to be £8.8 million in 1977–78. This compares with a forecast of £8.7 million at the beginning of the financial year. The latest forecast for local roads is £12.4 million. It is for local authorities to decide how much of the expenditure accepted for transport supplementary grant is allocated for road construction. However, the forecast is closely in line with the assumptions on which the grant settlement was based.
