§ Lord James Douglas-Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table, indicating the level of expenditure for each region in Scotland for each year, from the reorganisation of local government to date, on regional non-trunk roads, the precise total of rate support grant to each region for each year from the reorganisation of local government to date, and the precise total of the roads element of the rate support grant to each region from the reorganisation of local government to date.
§ Mr. MillanTrunk roads are national routes which are the responsibility of the Secretary of State and not of the regional or islands councils. The total rate support grant payable to each regional or islands council in Scotland for the years 1975–76 to 1977–78 is shown in the table below. Rate support grant is paid in aid of local authority revenues generally and not in respect of specific services. There is no roads element of rate support grant.
