§ Mrs. Bainasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied with the operation of the system of appeal in Strathclyde region, in the light of the report "Appeal Dismissed" published by Strathclyde community relations council which showed that, of 58 refusals of appeal to wives or dependants from Pakistan, 55 were found to be genuine 840W and had been wrongfully dismissed; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. JohnThe report "Appeal Dismissed", published by the Runnymede Trust, dealt with only two cases involving appeals heard in the Strathclyde region. As my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State stated in reply to a Question by my right hon. Friend the Member for Sunderland, North (Mr. Willey) on 25th May—[Vol. 950. c. 658]—the majority of the cases thought by the authors of the report to be genuine have been reexamined as a result of further appeals or fresh applications for entry clearance. The Government have undertaken to reply in due course to the Runnymede Trust on the report's general recommendations.
