HC Deb 03 July 1978 vol 953 c9W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what was the net salary, assuming the post to be held by a married man with no dependent children, in real terms, of the managing director and other board members of Cable and Wireless Limited in 1972 and 1978, taking 1972 as the base year; and how many places on the board are currently unfilled.

Mr. Les Huckfield

The net salaries, assuming each post to be held by a married man with no dependent children, of the managing director and of a member of the board of Cable and Wireless Limited in 1972 were £6,906.81 and £5,684.72, respectively, the latter calculated from the average of the gross salaries of full-time members.

The comparable figures for 1978 in real terms, using 1972 as the base year, are £3,643 and £3,247, respectively.

There are two vacancies in the formal number—12—of board members.
