§ Mr. Prescottasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has plans to reorganise the White Fish Authority and other statutory fishing boards; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. BishopMy right hon. Friends, the Minister and the Secretaries of State for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, are currently reviewing the functions and roles of the White Fish Authority and Herring Industry Board against changing circumstances. Progress has been retarded through the continuing uncertainty over future fishing opportunities upon which the structure of the industry, and the most appropriate form of administration, must depend.
§ Mr. Prescottasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the total cost for the maintenance of the White Fish Authority and other statutory bodies connected with fishing.
§ Mr. BishopThe Exchequer pays the salaries expenses of members appointed to the White Fish Authority and Herring Industry Board and bears the costs of the white fish and herring industries advisory councils. Current year expenditure is in the order of £30,000 for the White Fish Authority and £10,000 for the Herring Industry Board.
The general administration costs of both statutory bodies are financed by 513W general levy on port fish sales. The annual reports and accounts of both bodies are presented to Parliament and are available in the Library of the House.
