asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will now announce the abandonment of plans for the northern extension of the M23, and the withdrawal of the safeguarding of its originally contemplated route.

We expect to receive in the near future a report on the joint study undertaken with the Greater London council and Surrey county council and will hope to make an announcement in September.
