HC Deb 02 August 1978 vol 955 c451W
47. Sir David Renton

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he is aware of the need for a bypass at Spaldwick, Huntingdonshire on the A604 especially before the diversion of traffic on to it from the A45; and what steps he will take to get the bypass built at an early date.

Mr. Horam

I regret the recent tragic accident at Spaldwick. The highway authority for this section of the A604 is Cambridgeshire county council which would at present be responsible for any improvements to the road. A bypass of Spaldwick could form part of the green route for the proposed M1-A1 link road currently being investigated. The Department has recently rejected the suggestion that traffic should be diverted from the A45 on to the A604.
