HC Deb 26 April 1978 vol 948 c606W
66. Sir John Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what information is available about the present price of smallwood forest thinnings in Scotland; and if he is satisfied that the prices being paid are sufficient to ensure proper working of support for private forestry and of Commission forests in Scotland.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

Prices are normally a confidential matter between timber buyers and sellers. I am aware that there has been a reduction in prices for wood, including thinnings, and that this has had some effect on harvesting. I understand, however, that there are hope of improvement later this year.
